A walk-in cold room usually separates a remote condensing unit from a unit cooler inside the room. Start with load, temperature and the installation envelope

Do not start with horsepower or cabinet volume alone. Choose integrated, split, or remote architecture

Integrated or self-contained units

An integrated unit keeps the refrigeration circuit and controlled space in one cabinet or frame. This can simplify factory testing, installation, and responsibility for the complete package. It also concentrates heat, sound, service access, condensate, and electrical connections in one location. Check whether the installation has enough ventilation and whether the unit can reject heat in the intended room or needs an external condenser.

Remote condensing-unit systems

A remote architecture places the compressor and heat rejection outside the cooled space and connects them to a unit cooler or evaporator. It can reduce heat and noise in a cold room or display area, but it adds refrigerant piping, field joints, controls, drainage, and commissioning points. OEM custom assemblies

An OEM buyer may need a refrigeration unit that fits an enclosure, production line, heat-pump module, beverage cooler, freezer, or process skid. In that case, the refrigeration package is only one part of the product architecture. Send the available envelope, mounting points, airflow path, noise target, approved refrigerants, wiring interface, service doors, and the required sample or first-article process. Match the compressor, condenser, evaporator and liquid circuit

Compressor selection

Compressor selection must use the refrigerant, evaporating and condensing conditions, capacity range, motor supply, speed, oil, starting method, sound limit, mounting, and expected operating envelope. A compressor that fits a frame can still be unsuitable if it operates outside its pressure or temperature limits. High discharge temperature, short cycling, low suction pressure, vibration, or overload trips can also originate in airflow, charge, metering, or controls, so the complete circuit should be reviewed before replacing the compressor.

Condenser and heat rejection

An air-cooled condenser rejects heat through a finned surface and fan. Its duty depends on ambient temperature, airflow, fin spacing, fouling, corrosion, recirculation, and fan control. Water-cooled or evaporative arrangements add water quality, flow, treatment, freezing, or drift considerations. The selection should identify the heat-rejection duty, entering condition, pressure drop, fan or pump power, material, coating, and cleaning access.

Evaporator and metering device

The evaporator absorbs heat from a cabinet, room, air stream, water, glycol, product, or process. State face dimensions, circuiting, fin pitch, drain direction, defrost method, fan arrangement, connection position, and available service space. The expansion device may be a capillary tube, thermostatic expansion valve, electronic expansion valve, or another metering arrangement. Choose it from refrigerant, load range, pressure drop, superheat target, charge, and control response rather than connection size alone.

Receiver, filter drier and oil management

A receiver stores liquid when the system needs charge flexibility. A filter drier removes moisture and particles from the liquid line. Sight glasses, accumulators, oil separators, suction filters, service ports, and relief devices may be needed depending on the circuit and risk review. Size the liquid volume, pressure class, connection, support, and service clearance together.

Specify piping, controls and service access before the quotation

Piping is part of the refrigeration unit’s performance, not only an installation detail. Send the expected line length, vertical lift, pipe sizes, insulation, supports, vibration isolation, oil-return strategy, brazing or joining requirements, leak-test method, and access to service valves. For a remote system, ask the supplier to identify the boundary between factory-supplied and field-supplied piping.

Check commercial and industrial applications

For commercial food service, retail, and walk-in rooms, evaluate product temperature, door traffic, humidity, frost, cleaning, drainage, sound, and recovery after loading. Use the same rating condition in every quotation. If one supplier gives nominal capacity at a low ambient and another gives capacity at the design ambient, the numbers are not comparable.
